The Packers win the Western Conference championship on the final weekend of the season with a 35-21 victory over the Los Angeles Rams at LA’s Memorial Coliseum, their first title of any kind in 16 years. With a touchdown and five extra points, Paul Hornung finishes the season with an NFL-record 176 points, a mark that stands for 46 years.

Nine days later, the Packers fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL Championship Game, 17-13, as Jim Taylor was tackled by middle linebacker Chuck Bednarik inside the Eagles’ 10-yard line on the game’s final play.

End Boyd Dowler has said Vince Lombardi told the players afterward, “This is the last championship game we’ll ever lose,” and the Packers would not lose another postseason contest under Lombardi.
