City Stadium, now renamed Lambeau Field, is dedicated prior to a preseason game in honor of the Packers’ co-founder, who died three months earlier.

Following a rather protracted battle over changing the name of the stadium, it was formally rededicated by Green Bay mayor Donald Tilleman before Green Bay’s 31-13 preseason victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Curly Lambeau’s son, Don, spoke to the crowd of 50,858 on behalf of the family. “It has often been said that my father was without sentiment, but those of you who knew him intimately, either as neighbor or friend or business associate, know that he, too, could not have stood here tonight without having been deeply touched,” Don Lambeau said.
