Donald Driver, a seventh-round draft pick a decade earlier who was last on the depth chart at receiver during his rookie training camp, breaks Sterling Sharpe’s franchise record for receptions with his 596th career catch.
The record-breaking reception came in a shutout victory over Detroit at Lambeau Field, but Driver certainly wasn’t done. The former high-jumper from Alcorn State would break James Lofton’s all-time Packers record for receiving yards in 2011, and he finished his 14-year career (1999-2012) with 743 receptions for 10,137 yards.
His marks still stand very much alone, and Driver’s other team records include most seasons with 50-plus receptions (nine), most seasons with 1,000-plus yards receiving (seven), and most consecutive games played with a reception (133). His 61 touchdown receptions rank fourth in team history.
Driver also owns the longest touchdown reception in Green Bay’s postseason history, a 90-yarder in the 2007 NFC title game loss to the Giants. Not bad for a seventh-round pick who had all of three catches for 31 yards as a rookie in 1999.
