A week after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the Bears beat the Packers, 33-14, in a Western Division playoff in front of 43,425 at Wrigley Field. The playoff is necessary because both teams finished the regular season 10-1, having given one another their lone losses.

Green Bay’s early 7-0 lead, thanks to the Bears fumbling the opening kickoff and Clarke Hinkle scoring on a 1-yard TD run, doesn’t come close to holding up. Don Hutson catches just one pass for 19 yards while the Bears rack up 277 rushing yards and also score on an 81-yard punt return.

One week later, less than a third show up to see the Bears win the NFL Championship Game. Green Bay and Chicago would not meet again in the postseason until the 2010 NFC title game.
