After President John F. Kennedy, following a personal phone call from Vince Lombardi, moves his Army furlough up five days so he can play in the NFL Championship Game, Paul Hornung scores a title-game record 19 points and is named the game’s MVP in Green Bay’s 37-0 shutout of the Giants.

With the victory, the Packers won the first of five league titles under Lombardi, the franchise’s seventh overall and first since 1944.

Bart Starr also threw three touchdown passes in the game, two to Ron Kramer and one to Boyd Dowler, outshining fellow Hall of Fame QB Y.A. Tittle, who was just 6-of-20 for 65 yards with four interceptions among five total Giants turnovers.

Green Bay’s defense surrendered only 130 total yards in a game that did not at all resemble the Packers-Giants clash just four weeks earlier, won by the Packers, 20-17.
