The Packers announce they would hold their upcoming training camp at St. Norbert College in De Pere, beginning an arrangement that remains in effect today, the longest training camp association in the NFL.

Scooter McLean began the tradition in his only season as Green Bay’s head coach, seven years before both the Minnesota Vikings (Minnesota State-Mankato) and Pittsburgh Steelers (St. Vincent College, Latrobe, Pa.) would begin their long training-camp tenures in specific locations. Minnesota’s run at Mankato ended in 2017, while Pittsburgh remains in Latrobe.

Currently, the Packers hold their training-camp practices at Ray Nitschke Field, across the street from Lambeau Field, but the players still sleep during camp at St. Norbert.
